Service of The Month Tile and Grout Cleaning Cleaning, sealing and maintaining your tile, grout and stone can be a difficult task. It is nevertheless necessary to maintain the beauty, cleanliness, and sanitary state of your tile floors, showers, countertops and anywhere else you have tile and grout. There are different techniques for cleaning different types of tile and grout. Cleaning ceramic tile, cleaning porcelain tile, cleaning marble tile, cleaning travertine tile, and cleaning slate tile all take different techniques, cleaning solutions and processes. We utilize the latest and greatest procedures for the difficult task of cleaning your grout. Why Clean? Grout lines between tiles quickly become stained and discolored when they are in high traffic areas or damp areas such as the kitchen or bathroom. Tiles and grout in these areas are susceptible to mold and mildew, food and water stains. Tile grout is continuously exposed to dirt, soap scum, mold and mildew that cause stains and discoloration. Even when the tile is clean, discolored grout can cause an otherwise tidy area to look dirty. Regular care and maintenance are the best ways to clean grout and keep it clean. Rather than allowing dirt and stains to build-up, consistent cleaning makes an unpleasant job not so difficult. Whats Happening. As with any surface, tile & grout is porous and will “lock in” dirt and bacteria. Soon after, your floor can become a hazardous pool of bacteria and begin to have odor problems. The odor issues are caused by the bacteria feeding and growing on your floor. These symptoms can often be decreased dramatically by having your tile & grout cleaned regularly. Carpet Recycler Says His Industry is “Growing Like Crazy” in California
~ Surge is due to state’s AB 2398 Carpet Recycling Law, says Carpet America Recovery Effort board member Ron Greitzer
In an interview on TalkFloor TV that aired on February 23, 2011, host Dave Foster interviewed Ron Greitzer, President of LA Fibers, and a member of the Carpet America Recovery Effort’s board of directors, on the influence California’s new carpet recycling law AB 2398 is having on carpet recycling activity in the state.California passed AB 2398 to increase landfill diversion and recycling of post-consumer carpet generated in California. The law requires all carpet manufacturers to add a stewardship assessment of $0.05/square yard onto all carpet sold in the state as of July 1, 2011.
Calling AB 2398, “A model program” that would work in any state, Greitzer said that, since the law’s passage last year, the number of carpet collectors in California has grown from one business to seven. “It’s growing like crazy,” Greitzer said, predicting that California would see diversion rates for carpet surge to 30% in a year.
He added that, “The most important thing about recycling is not just bringing the goods in - it’s converting them to useable products.” Greitzer’s company produces Reliance carpet cushion, a fiber carpet underlayment that is made with 100% post-consumer nylon 6,6 content.
Robert Reiss, Vice-President of Reliance Cushion, who also participated in the interview, said the exclusive use of nylon 6,6 made Reliance Cushion a superior product compared to other fiber cushions, in that nylon 6,6 offers excellent performance characteristics in terms of its resilience and durability. He added that Reliance cushion has passed multiple performance tests. Through a partnership with fiber producer INVISTA, the cushion carries the Stainmaster® brand.

Service of The Month Air Duct Cleaning     What is Air Duct Cleaning? Most people are now aware that indoor air pollution is an issue of growing concern and increased visibility. Many companies are marketing products and services intended to improve the quality of your indoor air. You have probably seen an advertisement, received a coupon in the mail, or been approached directly by a company offering to clean your air ducts as a means of improving your home's indoor air quality. These services typically — but not always — range in cost from $450 to $1,000 per heating and cooling system, depending on the services offered, the size of the system to be cleaned, system accessibility, climatic region, and level of contamination. Duct cleaning generally refers to the cleaning of various heating and cooling system components of forced air systems, including the supply and return air ducts and registers, grilles and diffusers. If not properly installed, maintained, and operated, these components may become contaminated with particles of dust, pollen or other debris. If moisture is present, the potential for microbiological growth (e.g., mold) is increased and spores from such growth may be released into the home's living space. Some of these contaminants may cause allergic reactions or other symptoms in people if they are exposed to them. If you decide to have your heating and cooling system cleaned, it is important to make sure the service provider agrees to clean all components of the system and is qualified to do so. Failure to clean a component of a contaminated system can result in re-contamination of the entire system, thus negating any potential benefits. Methods of duct cleaning vary, although standards have been established by industry associations concerned with air duct cleaning. Typically, a service provider will use specialized tools to dislodge dirt and other debris in ducts, then vacuum them out with a high-powered vacuum cleaner. When properly maintained, your carpeting can improve indoor air quality, acting as a filter to hold soil, debris, and other contaminants and preventing them from becoming airborne, if used in conjunction with routine carpet maintenance; which includes controlling the spread of dirt with entry mats, regular vacuuming with proper filtration and micro filter bags. A floor care regimen on a standard schedule will complete a comphrehensive plan to decrease allergen contamination. Fun Carpet Facts: The warm comfort that carpet provides is not just your imagination. Unlike other types of flooring, carpet is a natural insulator, providing additional warmth in cold seasons and retaining cool air in the summer months. The use of carpet in a wall-to-wall application actually increases the R-value, or insulation level, of the carpeted area, potentially saving homeowners like you utility costs while reducing energy use. The R-value (thermal resistance) measures how much a material resists the movement of heat through a ceiling, wall, or floor in a building. The higher the number, the more effective the insulation. Recently, tests carried out at the Johns Manville Technical Center Thermal Labs, one of the most sophisticated laboratories of its kind in the world, confirm carpet and pad significantly increase R-value compared to other flooring materials. Results varied according to the carpet's construction, with heavier products generally providing higher R-value. Carpets were tested with and without cushion, and the combination maximized the R-value. Carpet Wrinkles- don't panic!
Carpet Wrinkles ~ Why & What to Do
In the world of real estate, carpet is something that most home owners have in one way or another. Having carpet installed or cleaned is something that most of us do at some point in home ownership. The past two years it seems as though there was more stretched carpet (wrinkles) in homes for sale than in the past. There are multiple opinions as to what causes carpet to wrinkle including bad installation and/or cleaning. There is another theory that carpet is not as good as it use to be. Newer carpets, when cleaned, start to stretch sooner than older carpets do.In this post the theories are not dissected as much as options for what you can do to avoid or fix carpet wrinkles in your house. It may not be replacing an entire room or house.
Just in case you have carpet that has stretched, or in another word, wrinkled, be assured you are not alone.

- Have carpet fixes repaired before you get your carpet cleaned and
- Get recommendations from friends and/or professionals you respect before hiring a company

Las Vegas Real Estate values at 1999 levels
Las Vegas home prices tumble to 1999 levels, report says
Las Vegas-area home prices fell again in December to levels last seen in 1999, according to the widely-watched Standard & Poor's/Case-Shiller Home Price Indices.
With the local market burdened by foreclosures and high unemployment (14.5 percent), Las Vegas-area prices have now declined three consecutive months based on Standard & Poor's data.
Las Vegas prices fell 1.1 percent from November to December and were down .6 percent on a seasonally-adjusted basis. These compare to declines of 1 percent and .4 percent, respectively, for the 20 big U.S. cities tracked in the Standard & Poor's report.
Compared to December 2009, Las Vegas prices were down 4.7 percent vs. the 2.4 percent year-to-year 20-city decline.
"Despite improvements in the overall economy, housing continues to drift lower and weaker." David Blitzer, chairman of the Index Committee at Standard & Poor's, said in a statement. "Unlike the 2006 to 2009 period when all cities saw prices move together, we see some differing stories around the country.
"California is doing better with gains from their low points in Los Angeles, San Diego and San Francisco. At the other end is the Sun Belt – Las Vegas, Miami, Phoenix and Tampa. All four made new (index) lows in December," he said.
"Cleveland and Las Vegas have the dubious distinction of average home prices now below their January 2000 levels. Detroit was the only market that was in that group prior to December," Blitzer said.
Standard & Poor's data show Las Vegas home prices through December had fallen 58 percent since their peak in April 2006.
The Standard & Poor's report is expressed in index values rather than dollars and is based on a three-month moving average of prices in the markets it tracks.
The December index value for Las Vegas, 98.91, is the lowest since 98.99 recorded in October 1999.
In terms of actual dollars, the Greater Las Vegas Association of Realtors reported that the median single-family home price during January locally was $125,000, down 5.3 percent from December and down 7.4 percent from January 2010.
