Raysco Inc's September Newsletter
Issue 2, Vol 9 09/01/2011
Hello Raysco Inc. Customers!
This is the Sept. Issue of our newsletter. Please have a Happy & safe Labor Day weekend. We are introducing a new, simpler format and I hope it adds to your enjoyment. This month our topic is Pet Damage/ Odor and how you can minimize the effects & prevent further damage. Our helpful tip will also relate to pets in the home- plus our monthly special. As always- do not hesitate to contact us via phone or email for any reason!
Topic of the Month: Pet Damage
When your pet has an accident it is best to clean up right away using a cotton towel or paper towels. Fold the towels thick and apply pressure to absorb the spot. Next rinse out the spot with vinegar and water; spray and blot. In an untreated spot as the urine dries it can start to migrate into the carpet padding and in some cases into the subfloor.
To prevent repeat offenses; it is best to treat carpeting with an odor inhibitor; and to prevent staining, we recommend applying a quality protectant.
If the problem is particularly severe, a full Pet Service may be required. Raysco would have to replace padding, seal the sub floor, replace tack strip, as well treat the front and back of carpeting to remove all of the odor generating proteins.
Raysco can also repair tears, rips and holes that are damaged via chewing or digging. We can patch, replace or spot dye if required. Please call us for your free estimate prior to replacement- We can work miracles!
Raysco Inc's Quote of the Month:
"Maturity is achieved when a person accepts life as full of tension; when he does not torment himself with childish guilt feelings, but avoids tragic adult sins; when he postpones immediate pleasures for the sake of long-term values.....Our generation must be inspired to search for that maturity which will manifest itself in the qualities of tenacity, dependability, co-operativeness and the inner drive to work and sacrifice for a nobler future of mankind." - Joshua L. Liebman
Fun Carpet Facts:
The warm comfort that carpet provides is not just your imagination. Unlike other types of flooring, carpet is a natural insulator, providing additional warmth in cold seasons and retaining cool air in the summer months.
The use of carpet in a wall-to-wall application actually increases the R-value, or insulation level, of the carpeted area, potentially saving homeowners like you utility costs while reducing energy use. The R-value (thermal resistance) measures how much a material resists the movement of heat through a ceiling, wall, or floor in a building. The higher the number, the more effective the insulation.
Recently, tests carried out at the Johns Manville Technical Center Thermal Labs, one of the most sophisticated laboratories of its kind in the world, confirm carpet and pad significantly increase R-value compared to other flooring materials. Results varied according to the carpet's construction, with heavier products generally providing higher R-value. Carpets were tested with and without cushion, and the combination maximized the R-value.

Raysco Inc's August Newsletter
Raysco Inc August Newsletter Issue 2 Vol. 8
Hello! Welcome to Raysco Inc's August issue of the newsletter. In this issue you will find information on Upholstery care, our monthly special and our home remedy. We are always interested in your feedback, so do not hesitate to contact us via phone or email anytime. We hope you enjoy and see you soon!
Service of the Month
Upholstery Cleaning
Why Clean?
There are several things you can do to extend the life of your upholstery. Rotate all loose cushions frequently to assure even wear. Vacuum dust and dirt from all fabric, cracks, and crevices. This will help to reduce grit that can cause abrasion. Protect upholstery from the sun. Ultraviolet light can cause deterioration. If your pet likes to curl up on the couch or chair, put down a towel or blanket, since body oils from animals rub off onto fabric and are very difficult to remove from upholstery. Use caution with clothing such as blue jeans. Fabric dyes can transfer onto upholstered furniture.
Choosing to apply fabric protection is the best possible way to protect your new upholstered furniture and keep it looking new. Treated upholstery will last longer and clean easier. Fabric protection treatment is a spray applied to all surfaces of the upholstered item. The application “wicks” into the fibers of the fabric creating a protective barrier against soil and stains. The fabric protection treatment we use has no smell, is non-allergenic and does not change the look or feel of the fabric. Fabric protection treatment has also been shown to provide a barrier against the dirt and dust particles that cause excess abrasand premature fabric wear.
All upholstered furniture will become soiled through regular use. Most spills and soil on fabric protection treated upholstery will clean easily and quickly, provided that the proper cleaning procedures are followed. A fabric protector is not an absolute impenetrable barrier and improper cleaning methods can damage both the fabric and the treatment. Follow these guidelines to properly clean your fabric protected upholstery.
Upholstery should be professionally cleaned when it begins to begins to slightly dull in appearance overall or on the arm rests alone. Do not attempt to clean large areas yourself as overwetting will likely occur, creating unsightly water rings that may not be able to be removed.
Did You Know?
While there are many companies that clean carpets, few specialize in upholstery cleaning. While the principles of removing soil remain the same, the approach and chemistry is vastly different. Improper chemistry in carpet cleaning may be not be immediately apparent, while the same problem in upholstery cleaning can alter the feel of the fabric and even change its color. While carpet is made of only a few different types of fibers, upholstery fabric can be woven into literally thousands of different combinations. Therefore, the importance of experience and training in proper upholstery cleaning can not be overestimated.

Service of The Month
Carpet Cleaning
Why Clean:
The biggest enemy of carpet is dirt. Soiled carpets wear out faster because foot traffic grinds dirt into fibers, causing them to fray. Then fibers unwind and mat together like dirty hair on a stray dog. The most effective defense against this kind of carpet wear is frequent cleaning. Carpets should be professionally cleaned at least once preferably, twice a year.
Whats Happening:
Soiling, accumulation of microscopic grit on the fibers combined with foot traffic scratches away your carpet's beauty. Like rubbing the fishing line with a piece of sandpaper, the surface no longer reflects light uniformly from the scratched fibers. This gives the carpet a dull and gray appearance. We can clean your carpet to remove the soils, but cannot restore the scratched fibers.
How to Maintain:
Carpet cleanliness can affect indoor air quality. Indoor air quality, a growing government and customer concern, is forcing contract cleaners to focus on health as well as appearance. When properly maintained, carpet can improve indoor air quality, acting as a filter to hold soil, debris, and other contaminants, and preventing them from becoming airborne. routine carpet maintenance includes controlling the spread of dirt with entry mats, vacuuming with proper filtration and micro filter bags, and immediate spot removal.
The Licensed & Certified Advantage
Everyone has had an experience with a sub-par service provider. There is no set criteria, be it an independent, franchise or single operator with a truck. Well intentioned as it may be, there are a lot of factors to take under consideration prior to allowing a carpet cleaner into your home or business. While training and certifications do not guarantee a satisfactory result, most of us would rather place our trust in someone who has invested in training classes to be up to date and knowledgable in the latest procedures and methods, as well as keeping current with the latest equipment. Also, there are insurance and bonding issues to consider- a single operator is most likely working under cost constraints and may not have adequate coverage if your flooring, furniture or even home is damaged. We all wish to save money where we can- but your home, business or rental property represents an investment for the future- you wouldn't trust your retirement plans to your local bank teller- why allow an under-insured, uncertified operator to possibly incur damage that can potentially cost you thousands? A few points to consider:
What kind of workmanship guarantee does the carpet cleaning service offer? Will they come back and re-clean any problem areas for free? Is there a money back refund policy in place?
What type of insurance do they carry? General liability insurance will cover slip and fall accidents due to wet carpet but generally not damage to the owner's possessions or even the item being cleaned. A separate endorsement many be needed for breakage or workmanship damages.
Are employees bonded and are they covered under a workman's compensation policy? A bond would pay if an employee steals something from the job site. Workman compensation covers an employee if he gets hurt on the job.
Is the actual cleaning work performed by the service company's employees or are they sub contracted to a independent carpet cleaner? The booking company has little if any control over the sub contractor entering your home. If a sub contractor breaks or steals something in your house you may have little recourse.
What training and certification does your company require? The certifying organization for the inspection, cleaning, and restoration industries is the Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification, (IICRC).
Raysco Inc. is very proud of our reputation and the quality of our work. We have virtually limitless recommendations, and we strive for 110% customer satisfaction on EVERY service call. We are not going to be the cheapest bid- but do you really want your flooring entrusted to the lowest common denominator? Remember- Good Work ain't Cheap & Cheap Work ain't Good.

Topic of the Month: Proper Care of your Natural Stone Flooring
Stone flooring is an investment and one with a great return. It’s almost always guaranteed to add value to your home. Taking care of it isn’t hard, but knowledge is power.
It’s is it's Own Worst Enemy:
Sand, grit, and dirt can damage natural stone surfaces because they are abrasive. Use a vacuum on your floor if it’s textured. But avoid the beater bar. Those bristles are tough and might scratch your flooring. An old-fashioned dust mop works well, as does a broom. Wet mop as needed.
Be Proactive:
Walk-off mats or area rugs on either side of entrances from the outside will help collect dirt before it reaches your beautiful new floor. Choose a rug or mat with a non-slip surface. Damp mopping your natural stone floor will help keep it looking beautiful.
Wipe up spills immediately. Use a neutral floor cleaner for good-old fashioned mopping. Too much cleaner or soap may leave a film and cause streaks. Don’t use products that contain lemon juice, vinegar or other acids on marble, limestone, or travertine. Avoid abrasive cleaners or any ammonia-based cleaners. These products will dull the floor’s luster. Retail grout cleaners, scouring powders or bathroom tub and tile cleaners can mar the finish on your stone.
Never mix bleach and ammonia. The combination creates a toxic gas.
To remove algae or moss from your stone in outdoor pool, patio or hot tub areas, flush with clear water and use a mild bleach solution.
Sealing Your Stone:
Natural stone has been formed over millions of years but improper care can ruin nature’s beauty. Although we usually think of stone as “hard”, it is a porous material that can absorb spills and stains if left untreated. Sealing stone with a quality impregnating sealer will prevent most spills from damaging it. There are a wide variety of sealers available, so you need to allow the professionals at Raysco Inc. to select the correct one for your specific needs and natural stone type.
_________________________________________________________________________________
Announcement:
Announcing Raysco Inc's new referral program: Now whenever you refer a client to us and they book a service- you recieve a $10 credit for your personal residence. We are honored that you trust us enough to tell your friends about Raysco- and we take that responsibility very seriously.
_________________________________________________
Home Remedy:Your part in keeping your Stone beautiful!
Always clean your natural stone with neutral based cleaners recommended by professionals. Never use anything other than professional products. A microfiber mop (velcro attached) is the best for both wet and dry applications. Avoid dragging, dropping, or any sharp metal objects on natural stone. Keep walk-off mats by all sinks, laundry rooms, front entrances, etc. to soften damage in heavily used areas.
Try to have floors regularly maintained at least once a year. Your floors are made to last forever, however, if left unmaintained, your investment is unappreciated. Keep it clean and shiny! Remember, every natural stone surface has everyday wear and tear in every residential or commercial setting!
